Artist's Description

In the lower left, the defendant's family watches as the jury forewoman reads the guilty verdict. The defendant slumps and scatters papers on the floor. The prosecutor and his helper look at each other confidently. Meanwhile the judge slams her gavel as a uniformed marshal advances toward the guilty party, leaving the side door open to the room with a waiting jail cell. Two reporters are covering the event, and the victim's family members, each wearing a bracelet with hearts on it, react favorably, their arms up in the air, in what was clearly "An Open and Shut Case."

About Joseph Burger

Joseph Burger

After retiring from an engineering career in 2009, Joe's attention turned to art, beginning with pencil drawings and then pastel and watercolor paintings. He especially enjoys the beauty and human interest found in everyday New England scenes, as well as the challenge of commission work, the challenge of capturing a client's idea in an artistic way. Joe's engineering and drawing background has proved to be a strength, resulting in many awards in local art shows and acceptance in nationally recognized exhibits. He is a member of several Connecticut and Massachusetts art organizations. He gives demonstrations at art club meetings, leads watercolor workshops, and is an instructor for watercolor classes.
